Grenoble is the capital city of the Alps. It is notably well known for the moutains that surrounded the valley but Grenoble is also one of the most important French cities concerning culture.

Libraries

With its 14 municipal libraries, Grenoble has the « Ville-lecture » status. You can always find a library close to the place where you live in Grenoble.

Consulting documents is free but you can also borrow books, CD’s, videos, music scores, etc … if you are registered. With this inscription, you can also have an internet connection. To register, you need your ID card, a proof of address and only 7 euros for one year for your district librairy. And 13 euros if you want full access (the 14 libraries).

Events :

In Grenoble, there is also a great cultural event called « Printemps du livre de Grenoble » and that takes place at Verdun place. During this literary event, you can meet writers, hear some readings, etc… There are also initiations to different styles of writing.

Cinemas

You can find about thirty cinemas in Grenoble among which four have the « Art & Essai » (« Art House ») status. What is an « Art & Essai » cinema ? a cinema that promotes research and novelty in the cinematic creation field.

What about the prices ? It depends on cinemas. In some of them (« La nef » and « Le club ») , you can buy a book of 6 tickets, which is cheaper: 5,50 euros by ticket. Don’t forget your student card to have reduction cuts !

Museums

In Grenoble, you can find six main museums (the archeological museum of Saint-Laurent is closed for the moment).

The « Musée de Grenoble » museum is well known for its contemporary and modern works of Art. There are guided visits or you can visit it on your own . If you are not fond of museums and only visit one, it has to be this one! Admission: Students: 2 euros. www.museedegrenoble.fr
